The Best Little Rabbit, Rodent & Ferret House is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to:

  • The rescue and adoption of guinea pigs who have lost their home, through no fault of their own.
  • The education of persons interested in sharing their homes with guinea pigs.

We rescue rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, gerbils,  hamsters, prairie dogs, chinchillas and the occasional hedgehog. We work with local animal shelters and accept these animals from them as space permits. (Only if a shelter has none of these animals will we consider taking in your guinea pig, and only if you pay for the spay/neuter.)

We spay and neuter our guinea pigs prior to adoption. This is done to prevent hormonal cancers which could result in early deaths. This also allows these guinea pigs to live humanely with their own species and with your family.

If you are looking for a friend for your own guinea pig s/he must first be altered.

We only do adoptions within the Seattle and Puget Sound area. If interested in a particular animal, you must come in to the shelter to meet one another.

Harry & Buddy

Harry(left) & Buddy(middle) are long-haired, neutered brothers born March 2008. Long-haired guinea pigs are not difficult to care for. If you will comb them once a week it will keep their hair from tangling. Perhaps once every 2 months you can trim their hair so it doesn't drag on the ground. If you don't have that small amount of time to spend with your guinea pigs, you don't have time for a pet.
Their girl friend on the right is Fluffers, but she has been adopted.
They are typical guinea pigs who hate being picked up. But once picked up, really enjoy being petted for a long time. These brothers would like to stay together.

Adoption fee pair/$100.

Sassy Sassy

Sassy was born appx. Feb. 2007 and spayed 5/14/08.
Sassy has numerous fatty tumors over her body, which shouldn't cause her any problems. We've tried bonding her with a female and then with a male but she doesn't seem to enjoy the company of another guinea pig. She does enjoy living next door to other pigs, where they can communicate over the fence.
Adoption fee $55. Call for an appointment to meet her.

Taffy

Taffy was born appx Feb 2007 and is a very cute, social girl. Taffy also hasn't found another guinea pig she'd like to live with. But she too enjoys backyard discussions over the fence.
Adoption fee $55. Call for an appointment to meet Taffy.
