The Best Little Rabbit, Rodent & Ferret House is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to:

  • The rescue and then adoption of rodents who have lost their home, through no fault of their own.
  • The education of persons interested in sharing their homes with a rodent.

We rescue guinea pigs, rats, mice, gerbils,  hamsters, prairie dogs, chinchillas and the occasional hedgehog. We work with local animal shelters and accept these animals from them as space permits. (Only if a shelter has none of these animals will we consider taking in your rodents.)

We spay all guinea pigs,  chinchillas & prairie dogs  and neuter these animals as funds permit. This is done to prevent hormonal tumors and early deaths, as well as a means to allow these animals to live humanely with their own species.

We only do adoptions within the Seattle and Puget Sound area. Companion rodents must live inside in order to be part of the family. If interested in a particular animal, you must come in to the shelter to meet one another.

7 Baby Boys

Well socialized baby rats born April 6, 2008. Rats must be adopted in pairs or as a friend to your rat. Adoption fee is $10 per rat. Or, if you would like to adopt a neutered rat the fee would be $45.
If you have never met a rat, please come visit.

Rats are the BEST pets! :-)

7 Baby Boys

Bear Berry Bear Berry

We currently have 1 single male syrian hamster looking for a home (his fur is black, the other one has been adopted.) He was born in October 2006. Hamsters generally live 3+ years, so he still has some good life left as a companion.
Hamsters transport food in their cheek pouches and should NOT be fed a nut/seed mix. (It can get stuck resulting in an expensive visit to the veterinarian to clean out an abscess.) Rodent blocks are the best choice for their basic diet, then you can also add some fresh veggies and fruit.
Adoption fee $10.

Scamp

Although no longer available, we like this photo so much that we're leaving it up. :-)

Spiney Mice Spiney Mice

We have one lonely neutered Spiney Mice/Mouse. We tried to reintroduce him to his mom and sisters after he was neutered, but they wouldn't accept him back into their family. I suspect that if you have a lonely single female, they might be more compatible.
Born Nov. 2007
Adoption Fee $20

Tic & Tac

Tic is the girl and Tac is the neutered male. The were born appx Nov 2007 and would like a home of their own. They are quite social, and enjoy running around under your shirt or all over your bed. Adoption fee $10/pair.
