A Bunny Photo Shoot I hope you have noticed this year's auction logo – an homage to Andy Warhol with some help from the Rabbit Meadows bunnies. I had the idea for the artwork while taking a class at Pratt Art School on screen printing last year. After numerous prints of my own rabbits, I decided to branch out to bunnies living out their lives at the Rabbit Meadows Sanctuary. My husband Art and I go out and volunteer at the sanctuary about every six weeks – a perfect place for a photo shoot after the work of the day was done.
Sounds easy, right? Round-up beautiful bunnies with high color contrast in their coats to photograph and make into strong clear screen printed images. Finding the beautiful bunnies was not the problem; instead it was convincing them that this was their time to shine on camera as America's Next Top Bunny Model. We set up a backdrop (okay, it was a few pieces of white poster board) in the rabbit yard and got to work. Many of the sanctuary rabbits like rabbits more than people … but we did have about a dozen submit to photo shoots (okay, it took two visits to get it right). Needless to say, not all of the pictures turned out as well as I hoped, but in the end I got enough to create the logo.
Here are a few of the cute, but less than usable images from the photo shoots.
The original screen print will be auctioned off at this year's Dinner and Spring Auction on April 5th at the Rusty Pelican in Wallingford. Tickets are still on sale and we are still looking for more auction items. Anything you can do will help these and other bunnies that need a place to call home. Contact information (and the final logo) are on our home page.
You can buy T-shirts, cups, and other items with the logo at www.cafepress.com/blrrfh. The sales benefit all the animals at BLRRFH.
